Speed Up Your Morning Beauty Routine

Does it take you forever to get ready for work in the morning? Do you wish you could be one of those people who can roll out of bed and look fabulous? You can. I haven’t always been the best at this, but lately it takes me 20 minutes flat to get ready in the morning. Ten minutes on a fast day and I don’t show up to work looking like a homeless person either. What’s my secret? Planning ahead.

1. Streamline your routine

In the morning do you waste time watching TV, sipping coffee or staring into space? Yea, that’s why you’re always late or scrambling to get out of the door. Think about your morning routine and cut anything unnecessary out of it. You don’t have to sit in front of the TV to watch the news, turn it up louder so you can hear it while you’re getting ready. Make your coffee while you’re getting ready, put it in a togo cup and drink it in the car. Or get a coffee maker with an automatic timer so you don’t even have to think about it. Take your shower and wash your hair the night before. Doing these simple things saves you valuable time in the morning.

2. Plan your outfit the night before

This is where valuable time is wasted most often. Trying to solve the “what am I going to wear today?!” quandary. Planning your outfit literally takes 5 minutes the night before. Think about what you want to wear, iron it if it needs ironing, find all of your jewelry, accessories, shoes, etc. and lay it out somewhere easy to find. That way, you can get to it easily in the morning.

3. Pack your work bag and/or lunch the night before

This is the same concept as laying out your clothes. The night before, make sure you have everything you need for work in your bag and keep it by the door. This goes for lunch too. Pack your lunch the night before and don’t forget to leave yourself a little note so you don’t forget it in the fridge. Personally, I don’t like packing a lunch everyday so I go to the store and get my lunch items for the entire week. I’ll buy stuff for turkey sandwiches, salad or whatever. I also buy all of my snacks for the week and take everything to work on Monday. I also keep a little pantry of items at my desk tuna, fruit, protein bars, seasoning, whatever for those days that I don’t want what I brought or I’m running low on certain items.

4. Simple, quick hair and make-up

Master 3 simple hair styles and make up looks that go with the majority of your work outfits. If you wash your hair every day, wash it the night before. Then, based on your outfit for the day, pick your look and get it done super-fast. If you want to add some pizzazz to your look, pack your extra make-up and take it to work with you so you can add a little extra eye shadow or liner it when you get there.


5. Quick breakfasts

Find simple, quick things that you can warm-up in the microwave while you are getting ready or things you don’t have to cook at all. Lately I’ve been making a few slices of turkey bacon (3 minutes in the microwave) and eating a piece of fresh fruit. You can eat it while you’re stuck in traffic on your way to work. Just be careful! Or better yet, take your breakfast items to work and make it there. Oatmeal, wheat toast and fresh fruit are simple, healthy things you can make when you get to work and eat while you’re catching up on your morning email.

Random things

  • Another thing I do is keep my basic heels in the car and wear flip flops until I get into work. This comes in handy so I don’t have to drive in heels. It’s hard to drive a stick shift in 5 inch heels! Also, if I have an unexpected meeting or something I have my heels handy to dress up my outfit.
  • I keep a stash of hair supplies in my work bag. If I’m not feelin my hair when I get to work, I have my basic products and supplies to change it. This has been a god send on bad hair days.
  • I also keep lotion, basic eye shadows, safety pins, a small sewing kit, tide pen, etc. in my work bag. You never know when you’ll need these items……..

I hope these tips help you get your fabulous self out of the door quicker in the morning…Maybe you can hit that snooze button one more time now!
